This paper presents the results of assessment of effective dose to the population outside VVER-1000/320 NPPs’ fences due to emissions from their spray cooling ponds. The article also shows that the spray ponds as sources of radioactive discharges are liable to state registration and regulation in accordance with Russian legislation, and thus demonstrates the necessity of limitation their discharges by setting airborne discharge limits.
