The paper presents the classification of RR experimental rigs regarding the level of their effect on of reactors physical characteristics crucial for nuclear safety. The classification is based on the results of calculations and experiments as well as operating data of various experimental rigs of some research reactors. The classification allows defining stages of work necessary to provide and justify RR nuclear safety when preparing and conducting tests and, consequently, optimization of preparatory work.
