Overview of the IAEA safety standards «Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material» SSR-6

In 2018, several changes were introduced to the IAEA document "Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material" SSR-6 (2012 edition) as part of the regular review cycle. These changes take into account modern approaches to regulation of safety during transportation of radioactive materials and summarize international transportation experience by various modes of transport. This article presents an overview of the main changes in SSR-6. A review necessity analysis of federal rules and regulations "Safety Rules in Transportation of Radioactive Materials" (NP-053-16) (which are harmonized with 2012-th edition of SSR-6) is also presented.
