SEC NRS Took Part in 7th Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety

SEC NRS representatives as part the Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov took part in the 7th Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety in March 27 – April 7, 2017 in Vienna, Austria.

On Wednesday, March 29, Deputy Chairman Ferapontov and Alexander Shutikov, First Deputy Director General of Concern Rosenergoatom, presented the national report of the Russian Federation on fulfillment of the commitments under to the Convention on Nuclear Safety. The presentation of the national report was followed by verbal questions from the representatives of the countries which are the Contracting Parties to the CNS.

As a result of the discussion, it was noted that the Russian Federation accomplished all the tasks set at the previous review meeting. In addition, a number of the so-called “Areas of Good Performance” were defined.

The Rostechnadzor and SEC NRS delegates also participated in the discussions of the national reports presented by the countries from the Russian Federation’s country group and the other country groups, and the sessions of the open-ended working group discussing proposals as to how to strengthen the CNS mechanisms.

The Review Meetings of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Nuclear Safety are held once every three years, with the previous meeting held in April 2014. The purpose of this event is to peer review the work carried out by countries to fulfill their obligations under the CNS which came into force in 1996. The convention aims to achieve and maintain a high level of safety at nuclear installations worldwide through enhancing national measures and international cooperation.
